Totally Transforming an Organisation Requires Looking at the Total End to End Process First.
Please oh please can we stop trying to transform organisations by using the “Let’s try this or let’s try that method”, it might make a small improvement to one stage of the value chain but the impact on the total organisation is minimal. Take a long hard look at the evidence – after 60 years of let’s try some Six Sigma, or OEE, or 5S, or ERP or Digital in isolation, the total end result is less than 15% value adding touch time.
Yes, we do know that all these tools and techniques make a difference to a small part of the value chain, but the impact on the total end to end process is minimal. In fact, when I measure the value adding capability of an organisation (Manufacturing, Services or Health) using Time Based Analysis by tracking a single product, the value adding touch time is usually less than 15% (15 days of value adding work in 100 days of elapsed Calendar time)
Using a Time Based Framework to measure the entire organisation never fails, the resulting visual analysis then guides teams to remove waste in a structured manner.
